The Donkey Sanctuary is one of the UK’s largest international animal welfare charities, currently supporting projects in over 35 countries worldwide. We are working for a world where donkeys and mules live free from suffering, and their contribution to humanity is fully valued. We are achieving this by transforming the quality of life for donkeys, mules and people worldwide through greater understanding, collaboration and support, and by promoting lasting, mutually life-enhancing relationships.
Volunteers have been at the heart of our work for over 15 years and will be an integral part of the charity reaching its goals in the future. They are involved in a multitude of ways across the organisation – welcoming visitors to The Donkey Sanctuary at our brand new Visitor Centre, in our shop, in our award winning restaurant, at our Donkey Assisted Therapy Centres, and at the many events we host throughout the year. They also offer support behind the scenes – with our wonderful donkeys, in our offices, our green spaces and much, much more…
Within this volunteer opportunity you will be assisting in the maintenance of all aspects of our donkey's care and welfare. You will be involved with the many areas of animal husbandry such as mucking out, grooming, maintaining bedding and food stocks as well as preserving a high standard pasture management. There will be chances to be involved with the development of our donkey's wellbeing, encouraging enrichment and exercise to the herd and at times sharing knowledge with our visitors and supporters as they view the stable-yard activities.
We are looking for someone who is experienced with working donkeys or other equines, willing to undertake stage 1 and 2 of our Donkey Training, be physically fit and aware of manual handling processes and experience of customer services would be an advantage.
