The Donkey Sanctuary aims to create a world where donkeys and mules live free from suffering and their contribution to humanity is fully valued. We work to transform the lives of donkeys and mules and the people who depend on them. We are the world’s leading authority on the health and welfare of donkeys and mules. Worldwide we work to relieve the suffering of donkeys and mules – their health and happiness is at the heart of everything we do. Here in The United Kingdom, we pledge to never turn away from a donkey in need and provide them with a loving home for life.

We are at an important stage in our fundraising strategy, having achieved considerable growth in the last 5 years, and we are investing significantly in our fundraising team to help us towards our ambition of reaching £50m income by 2023. In 2020, we launched our weekly lottery programme to deliver significant and sustained growth in supporter acquisition volumes and income generation.

We now have an excellent opportunity for a talented individual to lead on the daily management of the lottery supporter retention programme and to support our donor stewardship programme across a variety of other fundraising products and channels. Highly self-motivated, and with proven experience of working in a supporter/customer development environment, you will deliver fundraising programmes to supporters playing The Donkey Sanctuary Weekly Lottery. The aim will be to deliver increased lifetime value through compelling donor-centric journeys.

The successful candidate will have demonstrable organisational skills, excellent attention to detail and the ability to project manage a variety of simultaneous projects. Alongside the lottery, you will work across other fundraising products and channels as required, including a sponsorship product, newsletter and telephone appeals, raffles and digital campaigns.

Building upon your outstanding customer service skills, you will develop a deep understanding of supporters and their relationship with The Donkey Sanctuary. You will regularly review the position of your campaigns and will implement a programme of testing strategies to ensure both an effective and seamless approach to donor care. You will be adept at data and behavioural analysis to refine your stewardship journey to deliver higher response rates, greater average gifts, and a reduced attrition rate. Experience of working with supporter or customer data in the context of planning and evaluating direct marketing activities, together with successful experience of dealing with enquiries and complaints from members of the public, is essential. You will also need to be IT literate, familiar with the principles of Direct Marketing, and have exceptional innovation, communication, and collaboration skills.

Able to build, develop and maintain excellent working relationships, you will work closely with key stakeholders across the fundraising team, the wider charity and our external partners to deliver effective fundraising campaigns.

If you feel you have the qualities, skills and experience to fulfil this varied, challenging and vital role and would like to be part of the evolving programme of change taking place within the charity, we would love to hear from you. This is a full-time, permanent role starting as soon as possible, working Monday-Friday 08.30-16.30. We are also open to applications from candidates seeking to work flexibly.

The Donkey Sanctuary is still working to develop what office-based work will be required in the future. Currently the Fundraising Team is working from home with the exception of the occasional meeting on-site. We would consider any location for the recruitment of this post but may request occasional visits to the Sidmouth, Devon HQ fortnightly/weekly in the future.

Closing date for completed applications: Wednesday 1 December 2021.
