The Donkey Sanctuary is an international animal welfare organisation, offering care and protection to donkeys and mules worldwide. We are working for a world where donkeys and mules live free from suffering, and their contribution to humanity is fully valued. We are achieving this by transforming the quality of life for donkeys, mules and people worldwide through greater understanding, collaboration and support, and by promoting lasting, mutually life-enhancing relationships.
As Solicitor for The Donkey Sanctuary you will play a key role in safeguarding the reputation and assets of the charity, providing a diverse range of professional legal advice and support to stakeholders on both domestic and international matters. An ambassador for collaborative cross-functional working, you will act as the first point of contact for a diverse range of business functions across the charity, and will offer valuable support and guidance to other members of the Legal and Governance function. UK qualified, and possessing substantial relevant post-qualification experience, you will advise the charity on legal matters, and will work closely with external law firms (both in the UK and globally), ensuring the best legal support is obtained on specific/complex legal issues.
Possessing outstanding leadership, communication and problem solving skills, and the ability to demonstrate integrity, tact and diplomacy when dealing with sensitive and confidential matters, you will work closely with our Data Compliance team to maintain and develop best practice in line with legislation, and draft/update a wide range of commercial contracts/key agreements and internal governance policies, ensuring the charity is kept abreast of all relevant new legal and regulatory developments. The ability to understand and interpret complex legal information pertinent to the operations of a charity, and to provide commercial legal advice in a concise and clear manner, is essential, as is strong commercial and data protection legal expertise. Experience of working within the not-for-profit sector, and a practical working knowledge of charity, trust, property and intellectual property law is desirable.
If you feel you have the qualifications, skills and experience to fulfil this varied, rewarding and vital role, and would like to play a major part in shaping the evolving programme of change taking place within the charity, we would love to hear from you.
