The Donkey Sanctuary is an international animal welfare organisation, offering care and protection to donkeys and mules worldwide. We are working for a world where donkeys and mules live free from suffering, and their contribution to humanity is fully valued. We are achieving this by transforming the quality of life for donkeys, mules and people worldwide through greater understanding, collaboration and support, and by promoting lasting, mutually life-enhancing relationships.

These are exciting times for The Donkey Sanctuary, and we are looking for two talented Senior Designers to join the Brand and Design team as part of Marketing Communications. Based in Devon, you will be creating exceptional work across multiple channels including digital and social, experiential and outdoor, print and branded content. You are an exceptional graphic designer with proven experience across multiple design disciplines. You will be as comfortable providing advice and guidance to briefing teams as you are creating and art directing projects and campaigns, with the ability to understand how to achieve maximum impact through branded content and design, on digital platforms and in print.

Your principal duties and responsibilities within this multifunctional and rewarding role will include the following:

  • Work in both a supervisory and hands on capacity across a broad range of creative disciplines including creation of original concepts, illustrations and infographics for a variety of print campaigns, events, digital campaigns and product design.
  • Experience in the creation of digital and social media assets as well as an understanding of user centred design for websites, including optimisation for mobile and tablet.
  • Work closely with our Content and Digital teams to deliver creative and innovative design solutions that drive and support the income generation targets of the charity.
  • Partner with the digital and social media marketing managers to deliver designed assets that are specifically crafted for digital and social media channels, influencing and advising the most appropriate solutions within the brand guidelines.
  • Act as mentor to the graphic designers, providing artistic direction in collaboration with the Head of Brand and Design and Lead Creatives.
  • Plan and organise work for yourself and for the graphic designers on multiple projects concurrently and manage your own time to deliver on briefing requirements based on priority and complexity.
  • Provide guidance and advice to briefing teams across The Donkey Sanctuary.
  • Use our digital project management platform to manage your own design work and deputise for the Lead Creatives where required in planning work for others.
  • Demonstrate advanced knowledge and skills in: Adobe Creative Suite (including After Effects), Microsoft Office and ideally, video editing software such as Premiere Pro.

A formally recognised graphic design or creative qualification, e.g. degree, HND, BTEC or similar, together with the ability to positively influence, advise and collaborate closely with a wide variety of individuals. We would like to see demonstrable experience of working in a supervisory or mentor capacity, showing exceptional decision-making, communication, writing and information presentation skills, the ability to step into and lead challenging projects and embrace steep learning curves across a range of innovative new directions and disciplines. Also essential to the role will be an advanced awareness of how to deliver key content and messaging through exceptional design and visual content.

If you feel you have the qualities, skills and experience to fulfil one of these varied and vital roles, and would like to play a major part in driving the evolving programme of change taking place within the charity, we would love to hear from you. Based in Sidmouth, Devon – “an area of outstanding natural beauty”, we are offering the following contracts –

  • Full-time, permanent contract.
  • Full-time, 12-month fixed term contract.

Core hours for both roles will be 08.30-16.30, Monday to Friday. Working primarily from home, flexibility will be required for 2 days onsite attendance per week, and for evening and weekend working as required.

Closing date for completed applications: Sunday 10 July 2022.

The Donkey Sanctuary is a Disability Confident Employer.

The Donkey Sanctuary is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of vulnerable people (children and adults), and expects all staff and volunteers to undertake this commitment. Applicants will be subject to safer recruitment processes, including an application for a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check where required for the post.

Please note: The Guaranteed interview scheme is only applicable to candidates who consider themselves to have a disability applying for roles based within the United Kingdom.
