The Donkey Sanctuary is an international animal welfare organisation, offering care and protection to donkeys and mules worldwide. We are working for a world where donkeys and mules live free from suffering, and their contribution to humanity is fully valued. We are achieving this by transforming the quality of life for donkeys, mules and people worldwide through greater understanding, collaboration and support, and by promoting lasting, mutually life-enhancing relationships.
We are recruiting for two Intern Veterinary Surgeons, one to start in September 2022, one to start in March 2023. This position is suitable for newly or recently qualified graduates who are keen to develop their equine skills and who have an interest in equine welfare. You will be based at our fully equipped veterinary hospital near Honiton, Devon. Vet GDP is supported and you will be appointed a mentor to assist with this.
In addition to the hospital-based duties, we will expect the interns to be involved in ambulatory work on any of our six local farms that care for 2,700 animals. As well as routine equine work we take a herd health based approach to our veterinary care providing evidence based management advice.
We are a friendly team of 9 vets and 6 nurses who enjoy our work and are passionate about donkeys and their role in the world.
If you feel you have the qualities, skills and experience to fulfil these varied, rewarding and vital roles, and would like to be part of the evolving program of change taking place within the charity, we would love to hear from you. This is a full-time, 12 month, fixed term contract - starting in March 2023.
Closing date for completed applications: Friday 3 June 2022.
The Donkey Sanctuary is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of vulnerable people (children and adults), and expects all staff and volunteers to undertake this commitment. Applicants will be subject to safer recruitment processes, including an application for a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check where required for the post.
Please note: The Guaranteed interview scheme is only applicable to candidates who consider themselves to have a disability applying for roles based within the United Kingdom.
