We have an excellent opportunity for a flexible and professional team player with outstanding interpersonal and customer service skills to join our busy team at The Donkey Sanctuary Kenya (DSK), Lamu. As Finance and Administration Officer, you will be responsible for cash/bank management, financial reporting, budget administration and other related matters. Additional duties within this varied and rewarding role will include responsibility for Human Resources and Administration at the DSK Lamu Office.

 

About you:

  • Relevant finance qualification such as Bachelor of Commerce in finance or accounting or, ACCA F4 or CPA 2 or 3.
  • Experience of office and finance administration.
  • Experience of data recording, filing and monitoring.
  • Excellent organisation and planning skills, able to meet changing priorities and time frames.
  • Demonstrable verbal and written communication skills, with fluency in English and Kiswahili.
  • Competent IT skills and practical knowledge of Microsoft Office software.

 

About the role:

Your principal duties and responsibilities will include –

  • The recording, reconciliation and banking of all donations to the Lamu Clinic.
  • Managing Lamu Petty Cash – checking, processing and recording all payments, ensuring all transactions balance.
  • Reviewing budgets and expenditure as necessary with Finance & Admin Manager, and prepare monthly reports and other data as required.
  • Maintaining proper records on computer and filing of all relevant paperwork.
  • Assisting the Lamu Program Manager and Senior Veterinary Surgeon in the running of the Clinic systems and maintaining/updating records of such checks.
  • Providing HR support, including developing and leading on programmes to enhance employee relations and create a positive work environment and ensuring staff comply to country and DS organisational policies and procedures.
  • General administration tasks e.g. dealing with items of correspondence, telephone messages, enquiries and filing.

 

The contract:

Based on Lamu Island – approximately 150 miles north of Mombasa, Kenya –this is a full-time, fixed term contract starting as soon as possible until 30 May 2030, working 37.5 hours per week. Flexibility may be required for occasional evening and weekend work and for regional travel.
