We have an excellent opportunity for a flexible and proactive team player with a passion for Donkeys to join our busy team at Knockardbane Farm near Liscarroll in County Cork. Possessing substantial equine and animal husbandry experience, you will provide care and rehabilitation for the resident donkeys, mules and hinnies, and support the Farm Manager and Farm Supervisor in maintaining a safe working environment.
About you:
- Demonstrable experience of animal husbandry (preferably working with equines), understanding individual behaviour patterns and overcoming challenges.
- Excellent observation skills and the ability to identify and notice signs that would indicate ill health in equines.
- Willing to undertake work related training as required.
- Ability to make good decisions under pressure and deliver on deadlines.
- Excellent communication skills including being responsive to requests and adept at flexing communication style to different individuals.
- Full valid driving licence.
- Experience of using farm machinery, specifically Tractor driving.
About the role:
Your principal duties and responsibilities will include –
- Providing care by routine checking, feeding, medicating, grooming, weighing, worming and training the resident donkeys, mules, ponies and hinnies, including participation in behavioural observations and modification work.
- Cleaning, disinfecting and maintaining a high standard of cleanliness and hygiene in all barns and stables, including other work areas and staff facilities.
- Maintaining and operating all farm machinery and equipment in accordance with the manufactures handbook and following safe operating procedures.
- Assisting the veterinary surgeon, nurse, farrier and dental technician with examinations, routine treatments and welfare assessments.
- Supporting the Farm Supervisor/Farms Manager in maintaining a safe and secure working environment.
- Regularly undertaking wellbeing checks, including the taking of temperature and close inspection for any signs of infection, abnormality, illness or distress.
- Providing feedback on a daily basis to the Farm Supervisor/ Farms Manager on matters such as donkey health, feeding regimes and land management.
- Selecting and preparing donkeys for the guardian rehoming scheme as required, working closely with the veterinary and welfare teams and providing feedback on potential donkeys for rehoming.

This is a full-time, permanent contract starting as soon as possible, working 39 hours per week. The working pattern will be agreed between the Line Manager and post-holder, but flexibility will be required for weekend working.
