The Donkey Sanctuary is an international animal welfare organisation, offering care and protection to donkeys and mules worldwide. We are working for a world where donkeys and mules live free from suffering, and their contribution to humanity is fully valued. We are achieving this by transforming the quality of life for donkeys, mules and people worldwide through greater understanding, collaboration and support, and by promoting lasting, mutually life-enhancing relationships.
We have a superb opportunity for a versatile and self-starting professional to join our busy communications department and really help give our Donkeys a voice! As Copywriter, you will gather, develop and produce original and creative content for use across a wide range of fundraising campaigns and communication channels that demonstrates the relevance and urgency of the charity’s work, and which delivers effective messages that inspires action among existing supporters and drives the acquisition of new donkey devotees.
Educated to degree level, and possessing proven journalism skills and a firm understanding of storytelling, you will brainstorm ideas and concepts with other members of the creative team, and will work collaboratively with stakeholders across the charity to identify story ideas that grab the attention of the target audience. Able to work to tight deadlines, and possessing a solid understanding of brand and tone of voice, you will create succinct, impactful and engaging copy for news stories, video scripts, long-form magazine and web articles, brochures, reports, advertisements, direct mail campaigns, social media headlines, and much, much more.
Excellent creative, communication, organisational and proof-reading skills are essential, as are an understanding of how to write and optimise content for search engine optimisation, and the ability to deal with a number of conflicting demands while maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail. A Degree in advertising, design, journalism or related subjects, and experience of creating storyboards for video, are desirable.
If you feel you have the qualifications, skills and experience to fulfil this varied, rewarding and vital role, and would like to be part of the evolving programme of change taking place within the charity, we would love to hear from you. Based in Sidmouth, Devon – an area of outstanding natural beauty – this is a full-time, permanent contract starting as soon as possible.
