For more than 40 years, The Donkey Sanctuary has provided donkey assisted activities for children in the UK and overseas. Over the past four decades the programme has evolved to enable the provision of interactive, psychosocial, Donkey Facilitated and Equine Assisted Learning Programmes that utilise mutually enriching interaction sessions aimed at enhancing the wellbeing of donkeys and critical life skills of vulnerable people.
We have an excellent opportunity for an experienced and proactive Maintenance Person to join our dedicated team at The Donkey Assisted Therapy Centre, Leeds. Able to multi-task and work with a number of conflicting demands, you will provide efficient and effective maintenance support to the centre building, grounds and equipment, ensuring all are maintained to a high standard and compliant with Health and Safety regulatory requirements.
Ideally possessing a knowledge and awareness of safeguarding in a working environment providing a service to vulnerable children and adults, you will deliver health and safety induction to all volunteer groups, fire drill, wheelbarrow and ladder training to staff members, and ensure that all staff have received training compliant with regulatory and animal transportation standards before using vehicles. You will assist in the maintenance of equipment and vehicles including tractor and land management machinery, and will be responsible for regular fire alarm, safety lighting, health and safety and vehicle checks and ensure PAT testing is completed for all onsite equipment.
Experience of working in a similar role and/or practical maintenance experience, together with a basic knowledge of vehicle maintenance, joinery, plumbing and groundwork, is essential, as are good communication and IT skills (Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word). A LANTRA or other, equivalent industry qualification in abrasive wheels, Chainsaw, strimmer/hedge trimmer/combined mower, pest control & pesticide, and qualifications in maintenance skills such as joinery and use of electrical and mechanical equipment are desirable.
